• What is March for Science Indianapolis?
    • The March for Science Indianapolis is a celebration Science. It is a nonpartisan and inclusive event aimed at highlighting the impact that Science and Technology have on the Hoosier economy and our communities.

 

  • Will there be a March for Science in Indianapolis?
    • Yes, March for Science in Indianapolis is a satellite march in conjunction with the national March for Science in Washington, DC. While we align with the D.C. march, we are focusing our mission and objectives on celebrating all evidence-based science done in our state that benefits Hoosiers, our economy and our environment.

 

  • What is the goal of March for Science Indianapolis?
    • a. Our goal is to support our diverse communities throughout the state of Indiana. We all benefit from scientists working in the public and private sector whose innovations improve the lives of our people and our economy while protecting our environment. We advocate for the scientific community’s ability to openly communicate their research to the public and policymakers.

 

 

  • Where can I find accessibility information?
    • We will have accessible seating at the front of the Rally, near the Statehouse steps. Look for the blue balloons marking this area, or someone in a green volunteer shirt for assistance.

 

  • Can I bring a sign?
    • Absolutely! The Indianapolis March does not have any restriction on size or materials for signage. However, please keep your messages in the spirit of this march – a positive celebration of science.

 

  • Will you have restrooms?
    • Yes, we have rented several portable restrooms (“porta potties”), some of which will be handicap-accessible.

 

  • Can I bring my dog?
    • We welcome all accessibility animals at the march, but caution bringing pets for their own safety. We are expecting a crowd between 7,500 and 10,000 people, so please use your best judgement.

 

  • Is March for Science Indianapolis fundraising?
    • Yes, we are currently fundraising to pay for city permits and other amenities for those in attendance. Any funds raised beyond our march’s needs will be donated to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) outreach in our Indiana Public Schools.   • Does March for Science Indianapolis have political affiliations?
    • We believe Science is nonpartisan as the discoveries from scientific and technological innovations improve our global society as a whole. We believe science should not be politically driven and ask all politicians to vote in favor of evidence-based policies.

    • We will celebrate science! The March for Science Indianapolis is nonviolent and nonpartisan. We will have guest speakers highlight the positive impact science has on Indiana’s people, economy and our environment. We will show our pride for how innovation from our state improves our country and the world by marching from the Indiana Statehouse to the Earth Day Indiana Festival at Military Park. We encourage attendees to take action by continuing the promotion of science outreach throughout Indiana beyond April 22.

 

  • Who does March for Science Indianapolis represent?
    • We celebrate the diversity within the scientific community.  All scientists and science advocates and concerned community members are welcome as we embrace people of all races, genders, sexual orientations, religions, ages, abilities, socioeconomic and immigration statuses. Our core planning team stands in solidarity with historically underrepresented scientists and science advocates.

 

  • Can kids come to March for Science Indianapolis?
    • We believe children are our world’s future innovators and problem solvers. We encourage them to engage in scientific discovery as future scientists and science advocates. We welcome their presence at the march and are working to make this a family-friendly event with speakers that will engage all ages.

 

 

  • Are non-scientists invited to March for Science Indianapolis?
    • Yes! Science is for everyone, and March for Science Indianapolis welcomes all who advocate for science to attend regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability, age, socioeconomic status or immigration status.

    • Thank you for your support! We will miss you during the march but there are many ways to advocate for Science.
